I have a secret...
I have never painted with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint!!
EEEEKKK!
I know, it's a shame....but I haven't been able to bring myself to pay the price.
but I will soon...it's been calling my name.
For the time being, since I am new to painting furniture, I use my homemade version of chalk paint and so far I am loving the results I am getting
To make it...
I use
2 tablespoons unsanded grout to 1 cup of flat paint
I used my free Clark + Kensington paint from Ace Hardware
The color is Venice Beach
I started with this piece...my mom rescued it for me.
It was in pretty bad shape...
My favorite thing about chalk paint is that there is no sanding needed!
Awesome, right?
Just make sure the mixture is nice and smooth before you start.
I painted on a few good coats, let it dry and then I distressed it with a fine grit sand paper and hand sanded it to shabby non perfection, perfection
It found a home in my art studio for the time being....
Oh....It's love
How about you? Have you painted anything with homemade chalk paint before? Or is it time that I bite the bullet and start buying some Annie??
I would love to hear what you think, Thanks so much for stopping by!

Perfection C, just perfection! I love the table and I LOVE how bad it was before you gave it your homemade chalk paint love! AND I love your new blog look! :o)
ReplyDeleteYou rock!
Jaime
Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThat's it! I have a lovely side table that is in desperate need of a paint job and I've been putting it off because I really don't feel like * groan * sanding it.
ReplyDeleteI am all over this chalkboard paint idea. Thanks for the inspiration, beautiful!
Love The Blog Look!
ReplyDeleteLove The Table. . .& Totally Understand The AS Chalk Paint Issue!
I Have An Unopened Quart, I Purchased It In Dec. 2011 (along with two AS books). Haven't used it because at the price, I don't want to "waste". Not sure how that reconciles with storing it in the bottom of the closet but that is just how it is ;-/, for now anyway!
Love the new blog look and that table looks great! And I usually don't like things painted with chalk paint.
ReplyDeleteI am just like you just too Frugal (as my mother in-law would call it) to buy the annie sloan Chalk paint. But I have painted a few pieces of furniture with your tips and just bought the Annie Sloan wax to finish it off. It still amazes me what happens to a piece of furniture when there is new life given to it. Love it :)
ReplyDeleteYour table looks great! What a super tranformation! I have never tried homemade chalk paint before, maybe I should before I buy another can of Annie Sloan just to see if there's any difference. (I'm guessing there isn't.)
